Lawsuit filed against Jimmy John’s, sex offender employee who allegedly raped teen coworker

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI – A civil lawsuit has been filed against Jimmy John’s and an employee who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl after she reported “inappropriate sexual behavior” to her manager.

The girl is mentally challenged. The defendant in the case a 36-year-old man and registered sex offender. The teen and defendant were working at a Jimmy John’s restaurant on Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights when the alleged rape occurred on Aug. 15, FOX 2 reports.

Personal injury attorney Ven Johnson filed the lawsuit in Macomb County on behalf of the teen. He says Jimmy John’s knowingly hired a registered sex offender and then failed to protect the girl when she reported “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace,” the report said.

The lawsuit alleges that the teen reported the inappropriate behavior to her manager who took the matter to human resources, but no action was taken, the TV station reports. Then, on Aug. 15, the defendant allegedly made sexual advances on the teen, including asking her to have sex with him, which she refused. He then allegedly forced her into a storage room and raped her.

“(Jimmy John’s) hired … a convicted rapist and permitted him to work in an environment where he would come in contact with young, vulnerable women,” attorney Ven Johnson said in a statement. “[He] is a known predator and the defendants allowed him to attack again.”
