STERLING HEIGHTS (WXYZ) — A former employee of Jimmy John's is suing the company and a former co-worker alleging she was sexually assaulted in the Sterling Heights store.

The 17-year-old woman, who was unnamed in the lawsuit to protect her identity, is mentally challenged.

The alleged victim began working at the Jimmy John's at 36324 Van Dyke Ave. back in July.

A complaint, filed by Ven Johnson Law on behalf of the alleged victim, states that her co-worker, Jerry Jerome Brown-Pegues, 36, was hired despite the company being aware of his past rape conviction, and that he was a registered sex offender in Michigan.

“Turner Inc. and Turner LLC hired Pegues, a convicted rapist, and permitted him to work in an environment where he would come in contact with young, vulnerable women. Pegues is a known predator and the defendants allowed him to attack again,” said Ven Johnson, president of Ven Johnson Law.

The alleged victim claims that on Aug. 15, Pegues raped her in a storage room at the restaurant. Prior to that incident, the plaintiff claims she made management aware of his sexual advances. Human Resources was notified by the manager, and nothing was done, according to court documents.

Jimmy John's has not yet returned a request for comment.
